The one difference that actually matters: can iOS silence your alarm?

Here's the dirty secret of every third-party alarm app built before iOS 26: iPhone treated them as notifications, not alarms. Which meant:

• Silent mode could mute them
• A Focus mode could suppress them
• A force-quit or an overnight restart could kill them entirely

Alarm apps fought this with workarounds — critical alerts, looping silent audio to stay alive in the background — but the physics were against them. If iOS decided your alarm was a notification, it lost.

Both apps now have a get-out-of-bed photo mission, so the difference is in the how. Alarmy's flagship is the AI photo mission — photograph a household object, AI verifies it. AlarmPop's Snap the Spot does the same job with zero AI and zero cloud: you register a photo of something specific and inconveniently far from your bed — the coffee maker, your toothbrush — and the alarm won't stop until you walk there and re-photograph it. The match runs entirely on your iPhone. A photo of your bathroom, taken half-asleep every morning, is exactly the kind of image that should never leave your phone.

And the deeper philosophical difference stands: with AlarmPop, the alarm itself is unkillable — the siren gets louder the longer you stall, and if you hit the system Stop button, a backup alarm is already scheduled. Only finishing your mission cancels it.

What Alarmy has that we don't

Being honest, because you'll notice anyway:

• A free tier. Alarmy works free, forever, with ads and basic missions. AlarmPop has no free tier — a 3-day trial, then it's paid. We'd rather be a paid product with no ads than an ad platform with an alarm attached.
• Android. AlarmPop is iOS-only (26.1+), because AlarmKit is iOS-only. If you're on Android, use Alarmy.
• A decade of extras. Sleep sounds, sleep tracking, weather. We deliberately don't do any of that — AlarmPop wakes you up, full stop.

Price: half their annual

AlarmPop Pro annual is half the price of Alarmy Premium Standard's $59.99/yr — about $2.50 a month, less than one coffee a month. If you only ever want a month-to-month plan, Alarmy is cheaper per month; if you're keeping the app all year (it's an alarm — you will), AlarmPop costs half as much.

The verdict

• On Android, or want a free-with-ads alarm: Alarmy. No contest — we're not on your platform.
• On iPhone (iOS 26.1+) and your alarm absolutely cannot fail: AlarmPop. System-level ringing through Silent and Focus, a backup alarm behind the Stop button, and an annual price half of Alarmy's — that's the whole pitch.
